-2019 Team Fundraising is sitting at $11k this year, well shy of last years $24k total,  please continue to try and promote this effort that Ron Koenig had passionately spearheaded, this year we were able to fund a lot more for our teams and we hope to do the same in 2019 but we need support, any amount helps.

-HQ will be starting a new monthly AWSA specific e-newsletter. These e-Newsletters will be e-mailed to AWSA members who have opted in to receive emails from us. I also will be including at least one sponsor promotion in each e-Newsletter as well as an instructional article and other items as applicable (feature articles, SafeSport resources, etc.). The idea is to provide more consistent electronic communication to members each month. Please know that coverage of all major events will continue on the website and in the magazine as usual, but we want to be able to enhance our communication efforts with the monthly e-Newsletters

-Everyone should have received a letter from USA-WSWS yesterday about 3 big changes coming in 2019,(those being less magazine issues, increase in sanction fees, and a charge for sanctioning practices). In case you did not get it or get questions on it, below is the e-mail. All 3 of these changes may not be received as positive ones to our members but I feel confident that our new ED will put these additional funds to good use.  The moral of the story is that we simply do not have the funds to do much to grow the sport, enhance our website, or market ourselves.  USA-WSWS feels these 3 moves will help provide a better budget for 2019 to do many items that need to be done.  Print material is a dying breed and each issue cost $16k to mail.  Sanction fees have not increased in 5 years and most of our insurance claims are from practice injuries. So these seemed like 3 areas we could free up some room in the budget.

COPY OF EMAIL….Digital Communications/Magazine – Beginning in 2019, we will be investing in a more robust digital communications strategy to include customized monthly e-newsletters with relevant information that’s important to you based on your sport discipline. You will still continue to receive print copies of The Water Skier magazine in the mail; however, we’re moving from six issues per year to a quarterly publication – Winter (mid January), Spring (mid April), Summer (mid July) and Fall (mid October) – in 2019. You’ll still have access to all the great content from the publication in print and online in addition to customized content delivered to your inbox monthly via the new e-newsletters.   Event Sanctioning – One valuable benefit of membership both as a club and as an individual is insurance coverage at sanctioned events. Over the last few years the landscape of general liability and participant accident insurance has changed rapidly, and with those changes we’ve seen a significant rise in the cost of our premiums. As a result, starting Jan. 1, 2019, the cost to sanction a USA Water Ski & Wake Sports tournament or event (other than a basic skills or grassroots tournament) will increase by $25. Sanctioning prices have been the same since 2014 and this will be the first price increase in nearly five years. Any club that has already sanctioned (and paid for) a 2019 event will keep the 2018 price. Additionally, any sanctions between now and Dec. 31, 2018 will also pay the 2018 fees. Click Here To View The Sanction Fee Chart (PDF).   In addition to the above fee changes, the board also approved adding an annual $50 sanction fee for practices and exhibitions. The one-time annual fee will allow clubs to sanction as many practices and exhibitions as they wish during that calendar year. Many of the insurance claims we’ve received over the years have come from injuries sustained during practices and this minimal fee to clubs will help offset some of those rising insurance premiums.
