U.S. water ski athlete Nate Smith (McCordsville, Ind.) won the men’s slalom title on Friday at the inaugural Travers Grand Prix Pro-Am at Jack Travers’ International Tournament Skiing and Sunset Lakes in Groveland, Fla. Smith scored 1 buoy at 43 feet off in round one to earn the top seed for the finals, and scored 1 buoy at 43 feet off again in the finals to take the title. A $15,000 prize purse was available for the pro skiers. Great Britain’s Freddie Winter (4 buoys at 41 feet off) and Will Asher (3 buoys at 41 feet off) finished second and third, respectively.
The tournament, which also includes three rounds of record-capability slalom for amateurs and prizes for the top-three teams competing in slalom, Go-Karting and Skeet Shooting, runs through Saturday.
