The USA Water Ski & Wake Sports Foundation has officially launched the capital campaign for the new Water Ski & Wake Sports Hall of Fame, Museum, and official headquarters for the National Governing Body-USA Water Ski & Wake Sports as well as the Foundation. “We are so proud to have Hall of Famer & multi-world ski racing champion Mike Avila heading up the capital campaign,” said USA-WWF Executive Director Tracy Mattes. “Mike has hosted the most successful “Ski with the Legends” campaigns, raising up to $75,000 in one day and has a great passion for building the new Hall of Fame & Museum.” Avila will be chairing a new committee to oversee the fundraising and construction of this building. “We need a home for the history of our sport, we need a place that showcases all the great athletes that have come through our sports,” Avila said. “We need a place where people can come from all over the world and walk through the history of the sports and the people that made them famous.”
The building that once housed the Hall of Fame & Museum was sold a few years ago to make way for a huge, new vision for a water sports complex designed to expose more people and a new generation to our sport. It is an incredible vision that is taking shape that embraces all aspects of water skiing, wake sports and water fun.
We opened up Phase 1, including the “Elite Cable Park”, “Tantrums Lakeside Grill” café & pro shop on July 13th, just 6 months ago which is located on the seventy-five acre Lake Myrtle. We are working with the City of Auburndale to complete the Lake Grew ski and wake sports tournament lake, as well as an access road opening the water sports complex to the 200,000+ people that annually visit the adjacent Lake Myrtle baseball, soccer and football complex. This will make it easier for the those athletes and spectators from the other sports in the park to get to our complex and experience the cable park, ski lake and visit the new building for the Hall of Fame. It’s a fantastic introduction to the history of all of our sports disciplines. Establishing the revenue drivers first ensures the sustainability of the new Hall of Fame building. We are now officially launching a capital campaign specifically for the new Hall of Fame, Museum & headquarters building. We are in need of raising funds to make this happen and with all of you helping, we can make this happen together.
Creating a new home for the Hall of Fame preserves the history of our sport! We need a place that showcases all the great athletes who have come through our sport. It’s important to have a place where people can come from all over the world, to walk through the history and learn about the legacy of the people in the disciplines that made them famous. The Hall of Fame’s rich history was started by Carole & CW Lowe back in 1980 on Overlook Drive in Winter Haven. The building was then moved to Holy Cow Road and will now continue at our new home at Lake Myrtle, all located in Central Florida.
There are multiple ways you can be part of this capital campaign including naming rights, legacy and sponsorship opportunities and events. Avila will be the point person for all fund raising for the Hall of Fame building and will be reaching out to all of you in our water ski and wake sports community. Please join us in making this a reality!
